The original Psyclock by UK mentalist Paul Stockman is a clever time prediction effect released in limited numbers through Alakazam Magic back in early 2010. It was completely sold out in a span of just a few short months and I remember kicking myself for being too slow in making a purchase. It really was a major point of regret since I’ve always been a big fan of Stockman’s work…
Over the years I tried getting a resale unit but was never successful. That’s why my heart did a happy geek dance when I opened an email from Peter Nardi of Alakazam Magic UK sharing about their latest product offering… the new and improved Psyclock II aka Tempus!
Now, if you haven’t yet joined their VIP mailing list, I’d encourage you to sign up for free so you don’t miss out on exclusive special deals and the latest news. And while you’re there, you can also claim your free 6 magic tricks.
So what exactly is the key difference between the two versions of this clever mentalism effect that alludes you to having the amazing abilities to control and manipulate time?
In the original, a special stand for the supplied clock is needed for the Psyclock routine to work. In version 2.0, that is not required at all. Completely hands off, you don’t need to touch the clock and can even have it stored safely inside a box or thick padded envelope for an audience member’s safekeeping at the start of your show. A prediction can’t get fairer than that!
The handling is virtually idiot-proof and you receive every thing you need to start performing in the package. Just grab a standard phillips head screwdriver to set up your Tempus, but do be careful when opening the back lid. It is well built and sturdy, but obviously you wouldn’t want to drop your unit or mishandle it in any way for obvious reasons.
The set was shipped swiftly (typical efficient Alakazam Magic UK service for you), arriving far quicker than anticipated, and very well packed in protective bubble wrap and foam sheets within the cardboard box. It came with a round sticker stuck on the face of the clock, don’t worry. It’s a plastic decal that peels off easily and not one of those annoyingly stubborn stickers that leave a dreadful fingernail scrapping residue.
A password is supplied to all Tempus owners for a short and concise 10 minute long instructional video where the eloquent and charming Peter Nardi runs through the workings of Tempus. He also includes some basic ideas and performance suggestions in the streamed tutorial, to inspire you to come up with your own unique presentation.
Priced for the professional, Tempus clearly isn’t meant for the mere curious. It looks completely innocent and is a brilliant piece of kit which provides the astute performer with countless possibilities. There’s no need for a secret assistant, you can do this solo very easily. Plus there’s no awkward handling because the secret works are done hands off! The reactions you’d get from your impressed audience, I imagine, will be pretty massive. Also, I personally like that you can fairly turn the clock around to show the battery compartment empty at the final reveal, with the option of having your spectators fit in a AA battery as a convincer to show it’s just a regular clock that is now ticking in motion.
Only 100 sets were made for this early release, with 40 left currently, and once they are sold the next batch will only be ready next year during the annual Blackpool Magic Convention. So if you reckon Tempus is something you’d likely incorporate into your stage act, or deviously plant at home so you have an impromptu miracle you can impress your party guests with… go for it! Alakazam Magic UK is undisputedly one of the world’s top leading magic producers; you can’t go wrong with their quality creations and unbeatable customer service.
